Give Her a Smile – Education Fund

Education is one of the most effective pathways to breaking the cycle of poverty, promoting gender equality, and creating lasting opportunities for individuals and communities.

At Bwindi Women Arise, we believe that every girl deserves the chance to access quality education regardless of her social or economic background. The Give Her a Smile – Education Fund is our flagship education programme, established to support vulnerable and deserving girls from underserved communities surrounding Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. By removing barriers to education, the programme empowers girls to remain in school, realise their potential, and become confident leaders and agents of positive change.

Many girls in the Bwindi region face numerous challenges that threaten their education. Poverty often prevents families from paying school fees or purchasing essential learning materials. Limited access to school uniforms, books, and menstrual hygiene products contributes to absenteeism, while harmful social norms, early marriage, teenage pregnancy, and gender-based discrimination further increase school dropout rates. Without targeted support, many talented girls are denied the opportunity to complete their education and build independent futures.

The Give Her a Smile – Education Fund addresses these challenges through a comprehensive approach that goes beyond financial assistance. The programme provides scholarships, school fees, scholastic materials, school uniforms, menstrual hygiene products, mentorship, career guidance, psychosocial support, and life skills training. Working closely with schools, families, local leaders, and community stakeholders, Bwindi Women Arise creates supportive learning environments that encourage girls to stay in school and thrive academically.
