Our Story
Rising Together for the Women and Girls of Bwindi, Uganda
Bwindi Women Arise is a community-based and community-owned organization founded in 2023 to empower women and girls in the Bwindi community of Kisoro, Uganda. We believe that creating lasting change is a shared responsibility, and we work collaboratively to promote the wellbeing, dignity, and economic independence of every woman and girl. The women and girls in our community face significant challenges that continue to limit their opportunities and quality of life. These include extreme poverty, limited access to education, unemployment, domestic violence, early pregnancies, school dropout, HIV/AIDS, widowhood, and the struggles faced by single mothers. These interconnected challenges have left many families vulnerable and have hindered the full potential of women and girls

Our impact:
Women participating in our programs have shared inspiring testimonies of how acquired knowledge into financial literacy and village savings initiatives have improved their daily lives. Through practical micro-saving and income-generating skills, many are now able to meet basic household needs, including purchasing essential items such as food, soap, and salt. We have also witnessed renewed hope among families as women gain confidence to restore the joy of living into a healthy and safe natural environment, participate more actively in community leadership and development as well as contributing to creating safer and more supportive environments for girl children and young women.
Fostering Practical Solutions
Bwindi Women Arise exists to address these challenges through practical, community-driven solutions. Our programs focus on:
· Vocational skills training to improve employability and sustainable livelihoods.
· Education support to help girls stay in school and achieve their academic goals.
· Mentorship and leadership forums that build confidence, resilience, and life skills.
· Entrepreneurship training that equips women with the knowledge and resources to start and grow small businesses.
· Health education and awareness programs that promote healthy families and informed decision-making.
· Community advocacy for the conservation of indigenous knowledge, natural resources, and the unique biodiversity surrounding Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
We believe that when women and girls are equipped with knowledge, practical skills, and opportunities, they become agents of positive change within their families and communities. By investing in their potential, we help build stronger households, healthier communities, and a brighter future for generations to come.
